OPEN WATER

RC Gallery, Portland, OR 2006

These paintings are concerned with transformative patterns of the known and unknown interlaced together. The imagery is coaxed from oil paint, a material that carries the weighted history of its past, but ripe for new investigation with knowledge uncovered by the expanding chemical formulations of the present. Revolving around a premise of fusing together ancient and recognizable visual languages with newer language that favor emotional process and intuitive gesture; these works flow from emotional response. Hybridizing these two stem languages offers a graft of new possibility, within the preoccupation of pursuing the luminous.
